First meeting: Listening for academic purpose

THE FIRST MEETING IN SEMESTER 2

Hello this is fira again! I will tell you about what I learned on the first day of this 2nd semester.

This first meeting was of course still online through an application called Zoom. First, i will explain about this application called Zoom.

Zoom is an application that makes it easy for someone to meet face to face or talk to the videocall feature. This Zoom application provides 1,000 access for members in one discussion forum and Zoom is not only for videocall but also can share screen for your documents, files, photos or videos that will appear on the screen Zoom when discussing, this can be very useful for teachers and lecturers when explaining.

The first meeting with the lecturer discussing the semester 2 lecture contract agreement, also our lecturer conveyed a number of things that we must obey in his class, then the meeting ends with a mutually agreed lecture contract. Then our lecturer gave our first assignment by doing an assignment in an application called Syam.ok. Then I will explain about an application called Syam.ok. 

Syam.ok is not in the form of an application but can be accessed on google or browsing on the internet, Syam.ok is only for the Makassar state university and can only be accessed by UNM people, for example lecturers and students. In my opinion, Syam.ok is very difficult to use for new users because from my own experience when I first used Syam.ok I was confused so I often asked questions. Syam.ok is also a place for assignments that have been given by lecturers to students. 

The first assignment given by my lecturer in the course 'Listening for Academic' is an assignment entitled 'Module 1' in which we are told to listen to an audio and then write down what we hear on the audio, actually it's a bit difficult for me because I don't too understand the british accent but when i listened to the audio repeatedly made me understand a little about how to pronounce the british accent and I happened to have watched the Harry Potter films where in the film they used the british accent. and actually I also use Google translate to match the words I hear so that google translate can be corrected automatically. Then on that assignment we were told to look for new vocabulary (ies) in the audio and then write it down too. and finally we were told to make a summary of the audio. Okay that's all!
